Kohler Deploys Relief Showering Trailer to New York in Response to COVID-19

Unit is stationed by the Javits Center for health care workers to shower, refresh and recharge

KOHLER, Wis. (April 2, 2020) – Kohler Co., a global leader in kitchen and bath products and power systems, has deployed the company’s 42-foot KOHLER Relief Showering Trailer to New York City where it will be stationed at the Javits Center, which has been converted into a 1,200-bed temporary field hospital. The trailer will serve as a showering resource for hundreds of health care professionals and volunteers on the front lines of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Kohler is working in tandem with humanitarian organization Operation Blessing International and Bennett International Group to transport the trailer to New York from South Carolina. The KOHLER Relief Showering Trailer includes seven showering stalls in addition to a changing room and equipment room with washer and dryer for clothing. The trailer is also outfitted with sinks, faucets, charging outlets for mobile devices and flat-panel televisions so workers can stay up-to-date on news and ongoing relief efforts.

Kohler will work closely with Javits Center personnel and security to ensure the trailer is properly cleaned, sanitized and maintained to provide a safe experience for users.

An output of Kohler’s Innovation for Good initiative, an internal innovation incubator designed to develop new business opportunities that have a social purpose aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals, the KOHLER Relief Showering Trailer focuses on supporting relief workers in disaster zones. The trailer’s first deployment came after Hurricane Florence that struck North Carolina in September 2018. Since then, the trailer has provided nearly 3,000 showers across the U.S., supporting hurricane relief volunteers in Florida and those fighting wildfires in California.

“We deeply appreciate the remarkable efforts of health care workers and volunteers and their heroic efforts each day caring for patients, especially during this unprecedented pandemic,” said Cindy Howley, Senior Manager-Kohler Stewardship . “It is a privilege to provide some relief during these very challenging times.”
