Business Gifts and Hospitality

When used appropriately, gifts and hospitality can be an important part of promoting goodwill and strengthening business relationships. In some cultures, gift giving may be considered customary. However, if not managed appropriately, offering or receiving of gifts, hospitality, and travel may potentially violate this Code and/or local law. Never offer or accept gifts or hospitality that is extravagant or illegal, could appear to improperly influence a decision, or is in the form of cash or cash equivalent (e.g., gift cards or vouchers).

Think about it.

After a meeting with a representative of one of the Company’s distributors, you receive a high-end handbag worth thousands of dollars in the mail, with a note that says, “Thank you for your partnership.” Can you keep the bag? No. The cost of the bag would be considered extravagant. You should report it to your manager or to the Global Compliance team.
