For a nearly 150-year-old company, we have some forward-thinking views on what the home can be.
That’s what software engineer Anam Makani discovered when she joined Kohler Co. as a program manager for Connected Products, a team that was envisioning how thoughtful use of technology—with light, sound, music, and water—could enable exceptional personalization and transform everyday routines into memorable moments.
Part of our larger smart home team, Anam provided IT support for product development including innovations like the Numi® toilet, Moxie® showerhead, and DTV+™ digital shower system. She also provides products with the power of cloud connectivity and voice assistants.
“The IoT scene is quite a journey,” says Anam. “It’s so new that there aren’t any guidebooks, so we’re constantly learning, constantly pivoting and trying to adapt. Every day is a learning day.”
She notes that the team is always watching trends and exploring new ways to improve the experience for consumers. Just a couple years into her position, the team has already grown, and she works now with associates across the globe.
“Kohler has done well and been intelligent in understanding where the consumer is going,” Anam adds. “The consumer is looking for experiences, and the digital channel can provide them and change how we operate on a daily basis.” She attributes this progressive approach to product design to both bold leadership and the company’s commitment to gracious living.
Now in a manager role, Anam reflects on her decision to join Kohler Co. and what’s ahead. The company “Offers autonomy and opportunities for people to think beyond their traditional roles,” she says. “It has given me more opportunities than I thought I was capable of. I’m able to dream and see what’s possible.”
